Introduction
Nestled in the historic mining town of Bisbee, Arizona, the Copper Queen Hotel is famous for its Victorian charm — and infamous for its ghosts.
One spirit, known as the Screaming Woman, is perhaps the most unsettling. Guests and staff alike have reported hearing blood-curdling screams, often emanating from Room 315.
Who Was the Screaming Woman?
Legend holds that Julia Lowell, a young sex worker from the early 1900s, fell in love with a prominent businessman who rejected her. In despair, she took her life in the hotel.
Since then, strange activity has centered on Room 315:
✅ Whispering voices
✅ Sudden temperature drops
✅ The sound of high heels pacing at night
✅ Loud screams with no known source
Firsthand Accounts
A 2021 guest wrote on TripAdvisor:
“I was in Room 315 and woke up at 3:12 AM to a woman screaming. Checked the hallway — empty. Front desk said I wasn’t the first.”
A Copper Queen staff member told a Tucson news crew:
“She screams when men stay alone in that room.”
Skeptical Views
Some skeptics argue the sounds may be:
✅ Nearby street noise echoing in the old structure
✅ Plumbing or heating system noises
✅ Imagination fueled by the hotel’s haunted reputation
But consistent reports over decades suggest something more.
