22nd Street Antique Mall – Tucson, Arizona

A Marketplace of Memories… and Ghosts

Tucson’s 22nd Street Antique Mall isn’t your average collector’s stop. Spread across two stories and filled with more than 150 dealers, it’s a maze of vintage furniture, jewelry, glassware, and heirlooms from across generations. But behind the charm of its dusty corners and hidden treasures lies a reputation that has made it one of the city’s most intriguing haunted hot spots.

The building itself began life as Mitchell’s Furniture Company, operated by the daughter of the original owner. That family legacy still hangs in the air. Many believe it’s not just the objects in the mall that carry memories of the past—but the building itself.

Strange Happenings in the Aisles

Visitors and employees have documented decades of odd events:

  • Unexplained voices that echo through the aisles when no one is around.

  • Radios switching on by themselves, phones ringing with no caller, and lights that flicker without cause.

  • Furniture that shifts on its own, as though unseen hands are rearranging the displays.

A journal is kept at the mall where staff log these incidents, creating an unofficial archive of paranormal activity. One entry even described how disturbances seemed to center around Exhibit 17, a booth featuring World War II artifacts. When certain items were sold, the activity ceased—almost as if whatever spirit lingered with the objects had finally moved on.

The Ghosts of 22nd Street

The Pima County Library’s haunted Tucson files add to the mystique, reporting recurring sightings inside the mall:

  • A woman in a long dress who floats above the floor.

  • The apparition of a young girl, spotted weaving between displays as if she’s forever searching.

  • The rhythmic sound of a typewriter clacking away, though no machine is present.

  • A lone rocking chair that moves on its own, rocking back and forth in an otherwise silent room.

For many, these stories are enough to make them shop with one eye on the antiques—and the other watching the shadows.

Investigators Weigh In

Paranormal investigators have also spent time within the mall. One described getting strong EMF readings above a rocking chair, followed by an unexplained EVP that captured sound without a source. Others have called it one of the most active locations they’ve worked in southern Arizona.

Whether you’re a ghost hunter or just a curious collector, the mall’s blend of history and haunting creates an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Tucson.

Should You Visit?

Absolutely. Even if you don’t catch a glimpse of a spirit, you’ll leave with a sense of walking through a living time capsule. Every piece carries a story, and in some cases… maybe even a little more than that.

Address: 5302 E 22nd St, Tucson, AZ

Tip: Visit late in the day, when the crowds thin out and the building gets quieter. That’s when the mall seems to wake up in ways the owners can’t explain.

Final Note

The 22nd Street Antique Mall remains one of those places: a place where the past lingers, the present collides with the unseen and the truth—whatever it is—waits in the shadows.
